Doncha know, Niki? [A smug smirk.] Between a ruler and the ruled, it's the ruled who have the upper hand. Power exists precisely because the people ceded it to their king. And if they don't like their boss, they can always get a new one.
Right now, Rinne-kun wants to be the busy bee. If the queen still wants her throne, her beauty sleep can wait! Unless...
If it's to suggest she takes my place, then, no. While a ruler delegates authority to their elected officials, the true power lies in those who enforce strong social control over it.
( military power aside. that's not the focus of their discussion at the moment. his voice on the other end still sounds tired, but he's... up. )
Oh, that's our genius for ya! And he even made that comeback before breakfast♪
Sounds like Bambi folded fast. Niki's always up at this hour. I just couldn't sleep.
[ That's bad? Well, no. This is different. This is excitement. ]
Okay then, Mister President-by-default, tell our manager to take some notes! We ain't hibernating just yet. We gotta make our next show bigger and better! We were gonna do it last month, too! But shit happened, and now I gotta give my pirate costume back before they charge me extra.
Before I get into it, let's recap. The concert last July — gimme the good, the bad, the ugly. Anyone wanna start?
( sounds like he gets it. well. of course he does.
this has been the case from the start, and even though he's been hand-waving things that he really shouldn't lately, takasugi isn’t planning to back down from his self-assigned role anytime soon. if anything, he'll keep clinging to it. he taps claws against the side of his face, unseen. )
Ahh? The good, the bad... I'll start with what seemed most interesting to me in particular. Thinking back, the synchronized display of fireworks was a major highlight. It goes without saying that people enjoy that sort of excitement in moderation, but when paired with our sound and the audience getting into it, the whole experience becomes even more enchanting with all those colors lighting up the venue. It'd be wise to keep up that momentum going forward in finding ways to accentuate our performances. That, and...
( a pause, to wipe his eye. )
You did a good job coordinating our different approaches to music, allowing me the time to play a piece. I wouldn't say I was worried about it, but I definitely wasn’t ready to let it go. Not when I'm this good at playing. Other than that... I suppose the least interesting information I can give you is that if you change what we've done, I won't be in the loop. I was already struggling to keep up with some of that footwork, admittedly. So. We need more practice.
( ...... )
And a bigger venue, unless we literally want to go out with a bang, which, honestly? I wouldn't mind getting to see.
So, more fireworks and less flubbing. Everyone stayed for the food too, so I kinda wanna keep that in. But we've got more fans than we can cook for, and I need Niki alive before we go live...
[ He chews on a bite of pancake. ]
Well, if we're gonna light the stage up, an outdoor concert sounds easier to pull off. But with winter around the corner, we don't want our fans freezing out there, either...
'Course, indoors is an option, but I dunno if they'll let us set a theater on fire.
They won't, so cut that cute idea out of your heads.
[ besides, it's historical??? no.
malkuth weighs it in mind though, humming softly as she writes her notes and ideas down. ]
The illusion of fire would be good, on the other hand. For food... I don't want Niki dead or out of a job he likes to do for his fans, so let's compromise on that: he can make a portion of it that can be bought by fans, so they feel good supporting us, and I'll hire extra hands for some free dishes that won't...
[ a beat, hesitant, before she continues. ]
That won't put too much strain on a city that'll be facing food shortages as winter comes. A lot of the shops in the more impoverished areas are already being warned about delays and such, so we have to be careful not to be too tonedeath. [ ... ] Soups might be a good fallback, since they're pretty easy to make and cheap to boot. Is that okay by you, Niki?
[ scritch scritch scritch ]
We could do outdoors if we did that too, and your performance is sure to heat things up anyway. I just loved how much fun you three were having up there.
Food shortages, ... huh. Well, we're foxes, so maybe we should go out and chase something. Provide for the rest so they don’t have to spend extra on resources. I'm not from the countryside and I haven't done much hunting, but these claws certainly have their uses.
( he says it so casually, not even thinking, like it's no big deal. )
Unless that's going to run counter with our next theme somehow.
[This conversation lost Niki really fast (business conversations always do), but then he heard his name and talk about food so he's trying to pay attention now. Trying!]
Well, I'm okay with anything, really~. It's not like I need to cook. I mean, the first time I did it was kind of meant as a bribe for people to show up, but I don't think we really have to do that anymore...
[Because there does seem to be an interest in them, somehow.]
Honestly, I think we'd be better off trying to do something for the people, like Prez said. I'm not cut out for a ton of hunting, though~.
something something, next concert... their livelihood. whatever. )
I hate to break it to you, but I can't just whip up anything, and especially not food. Even when I had a brand of regional sweets under the Takasugi Heavy Industries name and designed the assembly line, it was real people who were actually handling the procuring of the materials and selling the product. Weapons, though? I can hook you up with more than just a gun, the whole lot of you.
Um, I'll take a pass on the weapons. I'm not really into violence. [Even if, technically, maybe it's not a bad idea to have something around, all things considered... But he'd really rather not think about that at all. Actually, more importantly:] You never said anything about selling sweets before, though, Prez. How could you leave out such an important detail about your life?
[This is only important to Niki!!]
It'd be kind of cool if you could do something like that again.
No, no, no, I want you because you can help me make food. [Not even subtle? Not even gonna pretend otherwise?!] I didn't know your machines could be so useful. I thought you just made, like, robots and things that explode and stuff.
It might help with our whole "contributing to society" problem, too.
Kyahaha! Hear that, Niki? You can't just get what you want 'cause you asked nice. Well, ain't like you were polite about it, anyway!
Let's put our cute little heads to work, then. Our last concert idea was a haunted pirate ship for Halloween. We were gonna rent a boat on Water's Edge, and the show woulda been by the shore... We'd be pretty heartless to pull the same shit on Christmas.

Date: 2025-11-13 09:52 am (UTC)Good morning~! Did everyone sleep well?
Actually, are we really working before Prez? It feels like we're putting him to work.
[Not that Niki minds. He likes picking on him too much. Teehee.]
