[An idle hand reaches out to ruffle Niki's messy hair, as if to pat his pet's little head and celebrate his small happiness. Now that Takasugi's truly gone, Rinne can focus on this and just this. Wasn't it always supposed to be just this? After everything that's happened to him, all he should want now is to become an idol and make Niki happy. For a man born into a family like his, desires like these still come naturally.
What was that pinch of his heart, then? The small Takasugi's face scrunched up like he was being forced to eat his vegetables, if not some other thing that couldn't have brought him any pleasure, and it pricked his heart where it was tender, as if it always knew here to strike him. He'll say whatever sounds nice to get his way, it's true. But what else could he do? As he and Niki melt in the warmth only they could share in the winter, he wonders if denying others this rare joy is also what a monarch would do.
