Wasn't it always supposed to be just this? After everything that's happened to him, all he should want now is to become an idol and make Niki happy. The small Takasugi's face scrunched up like he was being forced to eat his vegetables, if not some other thing that couldn't have brought him any pleasure, and it pricked his heart where it was tender, as if it always knew here to strike him. As he and Niki melt in the warmth only they could share in the winter, he wonders if denying others this rare joy is also what a monarch would do.
